V is for Vital Support

6th May 2024

It’s Viral Meningitis Awareness Week (6 – 10 May) and V is for Vital Support.

v is for vital support

At Meningitis Now we understand how tough life after meningitis can be – that’s why our experienced and supportive team offer an unrivalled range of emotional, practical and financial services free of charge for anyone in the UK who has been affected by meningitis.

Support like our unique Believe & Achieve programme for young people impacted by meningitis, helping them to overcome challenges, set and reach goals and learn new skills.

People like Rachel, who felt a renewed sense of determination when she joined the programme as she struggled with concentration, memory and exhaustion as she recovered from viral meningitis.

Coaching was fantastic

She told us: “The coaching I had was absolutely fantastic in helping me to work towards my goals. My coach (Sue) came to my house and gave me brilliant tools, techniques and support as I worked through my recovery. My confidence increased, I had techniques to help me study and mindfulness exercises to improve my mental health.

“Through Believe & Achieve I have met people who understand me and what I am experiencing. I have had both practical support at events I have attended but also just a platform to have fun and feel relaxed.”

You are not alone

Kris too found our vital support invaluable as he progressed towards recovery. “Meningitis Now has made me realise you are not alone and whenever you need to chat they are there and will do anything they can to help you.

“My Community Support Officer was amazing and so understanding. She has given me so much advice and support whenever I need it, and I can't thank her enough!

“I have also attended Meningitis Now virtual events, and these have been really great to speak with other sufferers to show support to each other.”
