Meningitis Aware Recognition Mark for nurseries

Although meningitis can affect anyone of any age, babies and young children are most at risk. Despite vaccines being available to protect against some types, there are still thousands of cases each year in the UK

It is vital that everyone knows the signs and symptoms to look out for, and the action to take if someone is suspected to have meningitis.

The Meningitis Aware Recognition Mark (MARM) toolkit has been developed to help nurseries (and other early years settings) ensure that staff, parents and carers know about meningitis.

On completion of the checklist, each nursery will be awarded the MARM which demonstrates that they are:

  • Providing information and training to staff about the signs and symptoms of meningitis and the action to take if a child is ill
  • Aware of the importance of vaccination for the prevention of meningitis
  • Planning ahead by having a protocol in place for the action to take if a child is ill
  • Planning ahead by having a plan in place to deal with a case or an outbreak of meningitis
Register now to become a Meningitis Aware nursery

Once registered, you will be able to access the MARM toolkit. You will also receive a confirmation email and be able to access the toolkit from there. Only nurseries that register will be able to access the toolkit.
