MARM for universities

Thank you for registering to become a Meningitis Aware University and gain the Meningitis Aware Recognition Mark (MARM)

The sections on this page will guide you through the process and provide the additional information you will need to gain the recognition mark. Our toolkit may simply act as a reassuring checklist for some universities who are already meeting the criteria, but for others it will help you to develop or update your plans.

Get started

We have created a checklist based on the recommendations in Public Health England’s ‘Guidance on the prevention and management of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia in higher education institutions’.

Download the checklist and complete ALL sections with a date and signature. You are not required to provide evidence alongside the completed checklist. On completion, return to

MARM for universities checklist.

Following a successful evaluation of the checklist we will email you the MARM recognition mark and a certificate. The recognition mark is valid for two years. After two years you will need to resubmit the checklist and we will send you a new recognition mark. Don’t worry we will send you an email to remind you that it is time to renew your recognition mark.

Please Note: We do recognise that not all universities operate in the same way and departments, resources and job roles differ considerably across institutions. In addition, we are aware that NHS and Public Health Services differ both regionally and nationally and it is not always possible to reflect these differences. What we are aiming for is a toolkit and a recognition mark that ‘raises the bar’ nationally for meningitis recognition and prevention.

Disclaimer: It is important that each university take responsibility for any information they develop in relation to achieving MARM. Any information provided by Meningitis Now is accredited by the Information Standard.
