Yes, it’s time to get your glitter on, rescue those flared dungarees and platform shoes from the back of the wardrobe and become a dancing queen for the night as you enjoy a musical journey back to those pop-tastic days when ABBA ruled the dance floor.
Leading tribute band ABBA Re-Björn are appearing for one night only in Bristol to raise funds to help defeat meningitis in the UK within a generation. The act is made up of extremely talented and professional singers and musicians who together make the most authentic sounding tribute to one of the greatest and best loved bands of all time.
With their Swedish accents, tight harmonies, high energy performance, replica costumes and audience participation aplenty you are guaranteed to be dancing the night away to all those well remembered classics.
Money, money, money
The evening, which will raise money, money, money towards our ongoing work, takes place on Saturday 26 February at BAWA Healthcare & Leisure in Filton, Bristol BS34 7RG.
It has been organised by The Meningitis Family, the group that was formed following the untimely deaths of George Zographou, 18, in 2017, and Margaret Wells, 68, in 2018, both from meningitis.
As well as the entertainment there will be a bar, bar food and a raffle, and a prize for the best ABBA lookalike. The fun starts at 7pm.
Tickets for this glittering event are just £15 per person. They are available from The Meningitis Family by emailing email@example.com or phoning on 01275 331 167, 07421 464 688 or 07856 222 468. You can also get them from BAWA Leisure on 0117 976 8066.
Devastated their families
Peter Wells, Margaret’s husband, told us: “The loss of these much-loved people devastated their families and started us, initially separately, in raising funds to fight meningitis.
“In 2020 we joined together to form The Meningitis Family, which creates events throughout the year, to raise funds and bring awareness to as many people as possible on how devastating meningitis and septicaemia can be.
“Our long-term goal is still to bring together other families who have been touched or lost relatives to this illness, so we can support each other’s fundraising events and ideas, be a support for those who need someone, and let the world know what this disease can do.
“We are also working to bring forward, as quickly as possible, an increase in the number of vaccines available to eradicate this killer disease once and for all.
“Do help us with these aims by joining us for the tribute night on the 26th – it will be a glittering evening. But hurry, tickets are limited and selling fast.”
Promises to be a great evening
Our Senior Fundraising Officer Leah Wynn said: “Once again we’re grateful to Peter and The Meningitis Family for everything they are doing to support our work and we wish them well for this fun-filled fundraiser. It promises to be a great evening.”
The Meningitis Family has a number of other events planned for the year too, including a VE 1940s Tea Dance on 19 March; a Horse Race Night on 30 April; and the Great Meningitis Family Quiz on 3 August.
