A South West company is on the right road to reaching its target of raising £100,000 to support our work and funding research into a vaccine to eradicate all strains of meningitis.

A leading provider of recycled aggregates in Bristol, plus suppliers of Bristol earthworks and waste management services including skip hire, Bristol & Avon Group has reached over £31,000 and still has lots of events in the pipeline.

Recently B&A Group employees have been heavily involved in the amazing South Glos Show, where they were able to make us the charity partner for the event. The two-day event saw £3,572 raised through the sale of raffle tickets, with the winner getting to demolish the sand sculptures that featured at the show.

B&A Group staff have also taken part in our inaugural Bristol Harbourside Walk earlier this year and held a number of other fundraising events and activities, including a ‘dirty dash’ obstacle challenge, car boot sale, pub quiz, golf day, triathlons, River Wye canoeing and an Eight Peak Challenge.

Three-pronged approach

The company aims to reach its total in three ways - through the sponsorship of personal challenges by its employees, donations from loads carried on its charity branded truck and in partnership with customers and suppliers. Funds raised will be used to fund meningitis research in the Spencer Dayman Laboratory at Bristol University.

Our founder, Steve Dayman MBE, said: “We’re really grateful to Bristol & Avon Group for their wonderfully generous support.

“This is our biggest cash corporate partnership and the money raised will make a real difference in our fight to beat meningitis through vaccine and preventative research."

“We’re also benefiting from additional awareness as people see B&A Group’s brightly-coloured branded truck out and about around the West Country.”

The partnership was launched in April last year and represents the second generation of the family firm, founded by Jimmy Berkely and his wife Margaret over 30 years ago, to support us.

Amazing opportunities

Clare Berkely, Bristol & Avon Group’s Finance Director, said: “Partnering with Meningitis Now has opened up some amazing opportunities for our staff and they tell me they feel inspired to get behind the cause and do something special and a bit different.

“Meningitis is a cause close to our hearts and as a company we’re delighted to support such a worthwhile charity and proud that our contribution could make the all-important difference in beating this devastating disease.

“With the ongoing support of our staff we remain absolutely committed to reaching our £100,000 target – bring on the next challenge!”
