The B&Q store which is located next to the charity’s head office, were keen to support a local charity.
Daniel Ellis, Gardening and Seasonal Manager said: “We wanted to fundraise for Meningitis Now as we wanted to support a local charity - and there wasn't one more local than right next door to us!
“It is also a charity that’s close to my heart, as five years ago I nearly lost my best friend to viral meningitis, and it still affects him today.”
Staff dressed up as superheroes to collect donations from generous customers, whilst contributing to protecting the public (an obligation of any good superhero!), by handing out meningitis signs and symptoms cards.
Harry Gardner, Corporate Account Executive at Meningitis Now said: “We want to thank all the staff at B&Q for getting involved and supporting us.
“It’s great that our neighbour has joined forces with us to fight the deadly disease that is meningitis – all fundraisers really are heroes to us!”
In total, staff at B&Q raised over £120 – a great contribution that will go towards the vital work of the charity.
However, in the spirit of true superheroes, staff are not stopping there! This bank holiday 27-29 May, the store will be holding a beach party! All donations will again be going to Meningitis Now, and staff are hoping to break their previous bank holiday total.
Daniel said: “We will be dressing in our loudest shirts and shortest shorts to celebrate the start of our summer season!
“We are hoping for even more staff involvement, and to smash our previous fundraising total!”
If you are thinking of doing some bank holiday DIY and will be visiting the store, please consider making a donation. Meningitis Now, doesn’t receive any government funding, and is entirely reliant on the generosity of the public.
So why not head on down to B&Q Stroud this bank holiday weekend and join in the beach party!
