Casino Royale fundraiser

5th July 2018

It was a case of ‘We’ve been expecting you Mrs Garley’ when our wonderful Community Ambassador Mary Garley was out and about on our behalf again recently, attending a Casino Royale charity fundraiser organised by our corporate supporter Baker Botts

Baker Botts & Mary Garley

The Casino Royale charity gala, featuring roulette, blackjack and poker, was just one of the many events organised by the London-based lawyers at the global law firm, who chose us as their charity to support for the second quarter of this year.

Other fundraising events they have run for us include:

  • Dress Down Fridays with cakes and treats
  • Royal Wedding sweepstake: Who will design Meghan’s dress?
  • Royal Wedding prosecco and cupcake party
  • Office Olympics
  • World Cup 2018 sweepstake
  • Meningitis Now raffle

Baker Botts Associate Sarah Beaumont was the organiser of the events, following her suggestion to support Meningitis Now in memory of her friend Nigel Bulmore, who sadly passed away from meningitis in 2007.

She said, “Each quarter a different member of staff fronts the charity initiative for the London office. Staff then raise funds through a range of events and donations for the chosen charity."

“As well as the events we also handed out the charity’s signs and symptoms cards and put collection boxes – and cakes – in the kitchens to encourage donations.”

Over the last 178 years, Baker Botts has established a long and distinguished tradition of giving back to the communities in which its lawyers and staff live and work.

Sarah added, “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Mary and Howard and hear more about the charity’s work and their support. I am so glad they enjoyed the evening and we loved having them!”

Mary, who lost her granddaughter Maisie to meningitis in 2008 at just eight months old, spoke about Meningitis Now and our work fighting back against meningitis and how meningitis is a disease that can affect anyone, not just children. “This to me is an important and vital message to get out there”, she added.
