Meningitis Now CEO Tom Nutt's fundraising skydive

High flier at work, even higher flier at the weekends: Meningitis Now CEO Tom Nutt is facing his biggest fear and throwing himself out of a plane to raise money for the charity

Meningitis Now CEO Tom Nutt fundraising skydive

Together with Rob Antrobus from our Brighter Future partner Enable Law, Tom will be leaping from between 10,000 and 15,000 feet up this weekend to try and help him reach his end of year fundraising target of £10,000 for Meningitis Now.

Rob – who also confessed to not having much of a head for heights – will be doing the jump as part of his year-long, mega fundraising effort for the charity, which also includes a paddle board race and running next year’s London Marathon.

Tom said the skydive will be taking place above the beautiful seaside resort of Perranporth in Cornwall.

“It’s meant to be stunning, but I am not sure how much I will see of it because I'll probably have my eyes shut for most of the jump!” he said.

He added that when he set himself the target to raise £10,000 for Meningitis Now he had been “genuinely trying not to do a skydive” – and hoped that signing up for London Marathon in April this year would be enough.

Unfortunately, partner-in-crime Rob persuaded him that the marathon wasn’t quite spectacular enough…and so the idea for two people terrified of heights to jump out of a plane was born.

Trying not to think about it

“I’m trying not to think about it at all,” said Rob as he prepared for the flight. “We’ve been working with Meningitis Now for years but this year I decided to really push myself and put myself under a bit of pressure."

“The idea of the skydive came about because I really wanted to get out of my comfort zone as this is how you get the interest going."

“I can’t say I am exactly looking forward to it – but I’ll be glad when it’s all over and it helps us reach our fundraising target and help people all over the country living with the impact of meningitis”.

Good luck Tom and Rob – and remember what they say: feel the fear and do it anyway!
