Everyone’s a winner in this fantastic fundraising and awareness-raising event, which invites punters to guess the distance travelled on a treadmill by a team of 48 local residents each spending 15 minutes running – a total of 12 hours.
All you have to do is donate a fiver and take a guess on the overall distance they’ll cover to be in with the chance of winning £100 of AO.com vouchers.
And the beauty of it is that all the funds raised will help us with our ongoing work.
In memory of Clara
The idea is the brainchild of local supporter April Prendergast and has been organised in memory of her goddaughter Clara, who sadly lost her fight to meningitis at just 10 months old. Clara never developed a rash – you can read more of her story here.
April met the founder of AO.com, John Roberts, at a business awards event organised by Theo Paphitis, of Dragon’s Den fame. As a fellow Boltonian he was only too happy to support the initiative.
Lots of other local businesses have also pledged their support and April is hopeful that the idea will be taken up by other supporters around the country.
Previously April, who set up and runs Prenderland Books to inspire children to read and have even more fun with books, has supported us through donating an image for one of our Christmas cards last year.
Her latest fundraiser is being widely shared on social media to help raise awareness of meningitis, emphasising the "don’t wait for a rash" message, and our work tackling it. Among those tweeting and retweeting are Julie Hesmondhalgh and Jacqueline Gold CBE, and media influencers Mother Pukka, Tobyandroo and Lilandlife
The dash takes place between 8am and 8pm on Saturday 24 March at Big G’s Gym in Edgworth, Bolton.
If you’d like to have a go at guessing the overall distance and support our work at the same time have a look at the fundraising page here.
As well as £100 in vouchers, sponsors AO.com have also donated a Nespresso Coffee Machine for one of the local runners.
“The support from AO.com is invaluable and is making a real difference to this campaign,” April added.
