Double up with Big Give

27th November 2018

Today is the start of the Big Give Christmas Challenge, when every penny or pound you donate to Meningitis Now through our Big Give Meningitis Now page will be automatically doubled

Big Give Christmas challenge doubles donations to Meningitis Now

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day for charities that’s been around for a few years - but for us it’s just the start of a whole week of generosity. The Big Give is a matched donation scheme which means every £1 given via our special page will be worth £2 to us. So from today and for all of the next week, your donations will go twice as far.

We are also very excited to announce that the money raised from this scheme will go towards a new programme of financial support, launching in Spring 2019, to be called the Rebuilding Futures Fund. Although details of the fund are still being ironed out, we can reveal that the sort of thing it will help to provide includes contributions toward mobility and specialist equipment, therapeutic services, training, hearing therapy and costs associated with funerals or travel to medical appointments.

We hope to be able to reveal more details about our new fund very soon – watch this space!

Giving Tuesday

Since 2014, Giving Tuesday has been a way for people in the UK to take a pause from the Christmas excesses to donate to a cause they feel passionately about. It’s also an opportunity for charities to talk about the work that they do. Here at Meningitis Now we are very proud that over the past 30 years we have funded £12 million in research, shared 22 million signs and symptoms cards, and helped around a million people affected by the disease.

As always, of course, none of this would be possible without out our amazing supporters. It’s thanks to people like you that we have been able to raise so much money over the years and helped so many individuals affected by meningitis. Although we are the largest meningitis charity in the world we are still small in relative terms – around 100th of the size of some of the UK’s largest charities, and we receive no government funding. So it really is down to our loyal community of supporters who give so generously of their time as well as their money to the charity all year round.

This Giving Tuesday we are asking you to tell a friend about us and let them know that over the next week their donations will be worth twice as much. Please tell them about how we have helped you and how their donation – large or small – will help in the fight against meningitis. You can share a post on social media (don’t forget to tag us in!) or if you would like to write about your experience and share a link to our donation page

Although this is just one day to highlight good causes, we’d like to take this opportunity to say a very big and heart-felt thank you for all of your continued support. It really does make a huge difference.
