15 year old Freya has been at head office for work experience this week. Here she tells us about what she's been up to.
Hi, my name's Freya, and I am here this week doing work experience.
I have spent my past 4 days going round different departments within the charity and seeing what they do and how they do it, and then having a go myself and helping out where I can.
I chose to come here this week because fundraising and events management are something I’m interested in and are possibilities for my future career paths.
I am amazed by the work they do and how much they all put into their jobs to make the difference they do.
There is always a warm sense of community and hospitality within the office and they’re always looking for more ways to fundraise outside of work as well.
I also have first-hand experience with meningitis. Although I don’t remember it as I was only 11 months old, my parents remind me regularly how lucky I was to come out the other side with no lasting effects.
I was in hospital for a week and on a life-support machine for four days. My parents benefitted massively from the support they got at the time and throughout my recovery.
Both my parents and I are extremely grateful for the work Meningitis Now has been doing and continues to do.
I am so grateful that I have been able to Work here this week and I feel like this is the least I can do to give something back to them, yet I feel like I owe this charity so much more.
On top of walking the Five Valleys Walk every year hopefully my friends and I will be doing some of the upcoming events like the Tough Mudder to raise money, and I will continue to participate in events held by Meningitis Now in the future.
