Question: What’s a lot of fun and raises a fantastic amount of money? Answer: Easy, the DP World London Gateway annual quiz, of course
That would have been the easiest question in the latest annual charity quiz organized by DP World London Gateway to raise funds for us, which raised a brilliant £17,494 towards our ongoing lifesaving and life-changing work.
Our Fundraising Director Beth Bottrill and Corporate Fundraiser Matt Stephenson recently visited the company to say thank you and collect a giant cheque. They’re seen here with quiz organisers and DP World employees and our own Community Ambassadors Bob and Barbara Johnson, who represent us at the quiz each year and give a speech about their experience and the work of the charity.
DP World London Gateway has been supporting Meningitis Now since 2014. The Essex-based global trade enabler is the UK’s most integrated logistics hub; a state-of-the-art deep sea port and rail terminal on the same site as Europe’s largest land bank for the fast development of logistics facilities and warehouses.
Lost much-loved colleague
The decision to support Meningitis Now came in January 2014 when a ‘much-loved’ young member of the DP World London Gateway team passed away quite suddenly after contracting meningitis. He was just 20 years old.
The DP World London Gateway Charity Quiz is held in the autumn every year. It sees more than 400 customers, suppliers, contractors and staff take part in building challenges, general knowledge and industry specific quiz rounds. The quizzes - organised by a team of staff volunteers - have raised nearly £85,000 for Meningitis Now over the years.
In addition to this, individuals at DP World London Gateway have raised more than £6,000 between them with activities such as mountain climbing and other events.
Grateful for support
Matt Stephenson, Corporate Fundraiser at Meningitis Now, said: “We are so grateful to DP World London Gateway for their continued support.”
“The amount they have raised over the years is absolutely amazing and we can’t thank everyone enough. The enthusiasm and dedication of colleagues will help us to continue raising awareness of meningitis, and support families and individuals who have been affected by this devastating disease.”
“On behalf of everyone associated with Meningitis Now thank you so much, your support really is appreciated.”
Speaking about the company’s fundraising efforts, Chris Lewis, CEO, DP World in the UK, said: “It is a pleasure to yet again be able to make a substantial donation to Meningitis Now - the charity provides people with such valuable support and resources.
“Kudos must go to the staff team that helped organise such a great night, as well as a thank you to everyone that gave so generously."
“In its five years of business, DP World London Gateway has raised nearly £250,000 for local causes; we are proud to contribute to work that makes a real impact on people’s lives.”
