And we’re equally delighted to see our brilliant volunteers stepping up to the plate once more to represent us at these prestigious events and helping to raise valuable awareness.
Many of you will recall that Give Them Wings is the book and film autobiography of meningitis survivor Paul Hodgson.
Paul, from Darlington in County Durham, contracted meningitis as a baby more than 50 years ago. It affected his brain and spinal cord leaving him with cerebral palsy-like symptoms.
For most of his life Paul has been a wheelchair user and he’s written his autobiography to challenge the stereotype of the wheelchair-bound victim.
The film of Give Them Wings stars Daniel Watson as Paul and Toyah Willcox as his mum. It has already won ‘Best Feature’ at the London Independent Film Festival.
So, if you’re looking for a good film why not go along to the Vue Cinema in Darlington for 2pm on Saturday 16 July. The London showing is at Vue West End in Leicester Square on Thursday 28 July at 7.30pm. The film will also be available to stream from 1 August– we’ll let you have details where you can get it soon.
The film company are kindly supporting our work at the launch events and allowing us to raise awareness. Those buying tickets through Eventbrite can also make a voluntary donation to our work.
