But today we introduce one of the third generation of Steve’s family, baby Clemence – who at just three months old is joining the fight against the disease. Clemence is the second child of Steve’s son Stevie.
Cute-as-a-button baby Clemence is taking part in a study for a new vaccine that is being developed against meningitis strains A, C, W and Y. As Steve explained, this means she will be having two shots – one at 3 months and one at 12-13 months.
“I started a charity 37 years ago, never thinking it would grow to be the amazing organisation that is Meningitis Now,” he said.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we do, from raising awareness, to supporting people living with the impact of the disease and of course to funding vital research."
“And I am also incredibly proud of my new granddaughter Clemence, who will be helping with this important research work, helping to beat this awful disease and make sure no other parent has to go what I went through when Spencer died so many years ago.”
Thank you Clemence – you might be small, but you are mighty. Together we will beat meningitis.
