The young baritone and upcoming singer Huw, 16, has been performing with Only Boys Aloud – the world’s biggest boy band – for several years and is now building on his solo performance skills.
The concert, at Porthcawl’s All Saints Church on Saturday 30 July, will raise valuable funds for our ongoing work as well as raising awareness of the disease.
“I’m really looking forward to the concert,” Huw said, “and to sharing a stage with Angharad Morgan and David Fortey from Cantare – I’m sure I will learn a lot from them.”
The concert has been organised by promoter Judith Shawe, who taught Huw’s mother Alison how to play the piano as she fought back from meningitis. Alison now volunteers for us as a Community Ambassador in her local community to help fund vital research, raise awareness and support others who have suffered from the disease.
“Judith and I are now good friends”, Alison added, “and she volunteered to organise the concert in aid of Meningitis Now as Huw and I are both ambassadors.”
Only Boys Aloud
“She also spotted the fact that Huw could sing and put him forward for Only Boys Aloud, so we’re both grateful for that.”
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 1pm, cost £8 and are available from Judith Shawe on 01656 786446, the Maple Chocolate Shop in John Street and Koko in Well Street, Porthcawl. Light refreshments will be available in the church hall following the concert.
Soprano and tenor duo Angharad Morgan and David Fortey started singing together in 2001, when they studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama together.
They both have exciting solo careers; most recently Angharad has been performing in La Boheme for Swansea City Opera’s UK tour whilst David has been performing with Only Men Aloud since 2007 – a role that has enabled him to offer guidance and support to Huw as he develops his singing career.
The singers will be accompanied by Ryan Wood, recently appointed Musical Director of Bridgend Male Choir and a performer with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
If you’re in the area please go along and support Huw.
