Supporters have the chance, for the next 30 days or so, to make a dream come true
To do this, all you need to do is visit the Kickstarter website and pledge your support for a unique publishing project that supporter Tracey Saunders and her family are fulfilling in memory of her son Edward, who died of meningitis when he was just 18.
Money pledged will go towards the publication of Robey and the Dentist, a very special book written and illustrated by Edward when he was 11. Money raised from the selling of further books will come to us to further our fight against meningitis. You can also get your name or the name of a loved one in the book.
If you choose to be one of the top-bracket backers the family will include your name on a thank you page in the printed book. There is also an 'In memory of...' page, if you want to dedicate this project to a loved one you have lost.
Happy, clever, handsome and fun-loving boy
Mum Tracey said: “Edward wrote and illustrated 'The Dental Appointment' when he was just 11 years old. A happy, clever, handsome and fun-loving boy, he dreamed of one day publishing his own book. Tragically, at the age of 18 years, he died after contracting meningitis and was robbed of the opportunity to become an author.
“We’re determined to make Edward's dream come true, and so have published this book in his memory. We hope you enjoy his humorous tale.
“The challenge with this project has been producing it to a high standard, something that people will buy in the shops, but also keeping it true to Edward's original drawings, which we have added at the back of the book.
“It is devastating that anyone should lose their lives or lose limbs to this terrible disease and if Edward's book can raise awareness as well as funds in the hope that one day it will be a thing of the past then I know Edward would be very proud of us all.”
The story
In the story Robey has an appointment with his dentist but is worried that his teeth are not white enough. His granny comes to babysit and he notices that her teeth are brilliantly white! How can she have white teeth when she is so old? Robey hatches a clever plan to fool the dentist. Will it work or will Granny's dog ruin it? What will the dentist say when he looks in Robey's mouth?
The book has been fully illustrated by Hullo Creative from Edward's original drawings and those who pledge to get more than one book get free UK postage. Otherwise it’s £3 in the UK and £8 for the rest of the world.
Tracey has also sourced some attractive book bags - totally perfect for a little toddler to carry their book around with them or to give as a very special present.
