Online property search experts Rightmove have chosen Meningitis Now as their charity of the year
The company pledged their support after a colleague lost their son to meningitis in 2016.
Joshua Bates was just eight months old when he lost his fight against meningitis, and during the time that followed, Meningitis Now supported the family and has continued to do so ever since. Head of Events at Rightmove, Sara Monk, says, “When one of our much-loved colleagues at Rightmove tragically lost his son to meningitis back in December 2016, the team at Meningitis Now were a great support to him and his family.”
“In memory of Joshua, and on behalf of our colleague Phil and his family, we’re proud to raise money for Meningitis Now through various activities this year.”
These activities include fundraising at the Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon – an event which Rightmove are sponsoring.
The race is happening on 7 May 2018 and volunteers from Meningitis Now will be there chatting to people and raising awareness of the disease.
Steve Dayman, Executive Founder of Meningitis Now, will also be there to present one of the medals and talk to runners and their supporters about the work of Meningitis Now.
Steve said, “We really appreciate the support from Rightmove, choosing us as their charity of the year.”
“Attending the Milton Keynes Marathon will give us an invaluable opportunity to raise awareness of the symptoms of meningitis and the work of the charity.”
Rightmove staff have been showing their generosity and getting behind the partnership by volunteering their time to be part of either the running or fundraising teams.
Sara added, “Right now, our team of over 50 runners and 50 fundraisers are busy pounding the pavements and shaking buckets to prepare for the marathon and raise as much money as they can for this incredible charity.”
The ‘Rightmove Runners’ are a team of inexperienced and experienced runners, who are bravely taking on either the half marathon or the full 26.2 miles.
Rightmove have set themselves an ambitious target of £13,000 for Meningitis Now, and have already passed the half-way mark reaching 58% of their target by mid-February!
