Congratulations to our supporter Bankim Desai, who successfully completed a charity walk at the weekend
Bankim completed over 30,000 steps to raise awareness and funds for our ongoing lifesaving and life-changing work, raising a fantastic £2,357 so far in the process, with yet more to follow. If you’d like to add to his total you can do so through his fundraising page.
Bankim, who’s no stranger to fundraising having previously supported Great Ormond Street Hospital, told us: “To raise awareness and donations for Meningitis Now, I took on a charity walk to honour my family's personal experience with the disease and raise support and recognition of this charity, which has been close to my heart since 2003.
Rushed to A&E
“My family experienced a difficult time in 2003 when my child was rushed to emergency A&E, followed by ICU for nine days having been diagnosed with meningitis.
“The walk signified the journey that was taken from our home to Whipps Cross Hospital and to Shri Nathji Sanatan Hindu Mandir (the Hindu Temple in Leytonstone), where my child’s recovery took place and all of our prayers came true to bring him back home fully recovered.
“As a family, we were in awe of the hospital staff's support and how every single doctor and nurse pulled together to support my child's life.
Prepare for the worst
“At one point, we received the difficult news that we should be 'prepared for the worst'.
“All of the family and friends’ prayers were answered when my child finally awoke from his coma, and we feel even more blessed in his making a full recovery.”
Our Fundraising Officer Sophia Lanciano said: “Well done Bankim and everyone who joined him on the day – what a fantastic achievement. We’re really grateful for your support, which helps us to be here for everyone who needs us."
