Since then, Sophie – now 23 years old - has been determinedly studying, achieving Levels 2 and 3 in Animal Welfare.
In 2017, Sophie had a change of direction: her family moved from Buckingham to Malmesbury in Wiltshire and soon after, Sophie began working full time in a children’s nursery. Alongside this, she also embarked on a Distance Learning course to study for a Level 2 and Level 3 in Childcare & Education, completing assignments in her own time.
Sophie told us, “Meningitis Now's COVID-19 Young Futures Fund has gifted me a brand new HP laptop - a purple one, which was Emily’s favourite colour! During the past few months, including the Covid lockdown, I have been completing assignments for my Level 3 qualification and have also been re-taking my Level 2 Maths qualification.
Enabled me to progress more quickly
“Having my own laptop has enabled me to progress more quickly through the workload and I’m delighted to say I’ve just had an email saying I’ve passed my Maths! I hope very soon that I’ll also hear the news that I’ve passed the whole course and receive my certificate.
“I also use the laptop to complete Observations in my workplace and use it for pleasure too, watching films and using social media!
“Meningitis Now has supported my family in so many ways since Emily died and we are proud to have raised more than £35,000 for the charity. Thank you again for my fabulous laptop! I’ve even bought myself a purple laptop bag to keep it in!“
