Take on a Santa Dash

1st December 2017

If you’re down in Kent next weekend, why not sign up for the Folkestone Santa Dash and run up some funds to help us fight meningitis this winter?

Santa run

Folkestone Channel Rotary Club, the organiser of the five kilometre fun run, has chosen to support us with this year’s event, which takes place on Sunday 10 December. There’s also a three kilometre run for the under 12s.

The popular event, now in its 13th year, is for all ages and abilities. “As well as serious runners, we welcome joggers, walkers, people in wheelchairs, children in prams – we even accept dogs with their owners!” Stephane Bounous from the Rotary Club said.

All those who complete the course get a medal and there are trophies for the fastest team, biggest team, fastest individual and best fancy dress.

Meningitis Now Community Fundraiser Leah Wynn said “We ho-ho-hope lots of people will sign up to take part in the run.”

Free Santa suit included

A free Santa suit is included for everyone who signs up, adding to the run’s fun and colourful nature.

Cases of bacterial meningitis – the most dangerous form of the deadly disease - peak during the winter months, so raising awareness and funds to fight it is particularly appropriate at this time of year.

“What better way to do something charitable this Christmas than by having a great time with your family and friends at the Santa Run,” Leah added.

“We would love people from near and far to enjoy a day out and take part in this family-friendly event. Dressing up as Santa definitely adds to the fun.”

Runners can register online for the run at www.santasfunrun.org.uk or on the day from 10am; the run starts at 11.30am from Bouverie Place Shopping Centre, Folkestone. Cost is £12 for adults, £8 for children and £30 for families. Those getting over £30 in sponsorship can enter free.
