The 14-foot long advert, which promotes the charity’s annual sponsored event taking place later this month, was nabbed from railings outside B&Q by the Bath Road crossroad some time over the weekend 15-17 September. According to event organiser Carrie Bater, the thieves would have had to cut through the plastic cables attaching the banner to the railings.
“They must have really wanted to take it,” she said. “It’s very strange and sad that someone would want to steal not only from a charity but from the wider community – this event is enjoyed by people of all ages from right across Gloucestershire."
“Whoever took it might have just been having a laugh, but it’s a really important part of our advertising for the annual Five Valley’s Walk – which raises thousands of pounds for the vital work carried out by the charity."
“It would be such a shame if this impacted our efforts to advertise the event. Whoever took it, please bring it back!”
Carrie added that Early Bird registration for the event closes at midday on 26 September so it was really important to have the banner returned as soon as possible.
Advance entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children (under 5s free). Tickets for groups of up to four people, bought in advance only, are £30.
