With only two weeks to go before the deadline when the Department of Health and Social Care formally review the 12 recommendations made by the Meningococcal Working Group, Meningitis Now has secured assurances that the new Secretary for State for Health and Social Care, the Right Honourable Matt Hancock MP, will fulfil his predecessor’s commitment to respond to the report during the autumn period
We are particularly keen to hear his views on effective use of NICE guidelines and improved safety netting; two core proposals that could, if implemented, help to improve early diagnosis and save lives.
Dr Tom Nutt, CEO at Meningitis Now, said, “We are entering a really important period in the life of this working group and urge Mr Hancock to accept the recommendations put forward by the working group and put in place a clearly defined and timely plan of action to secure their implementation."
“The ongoing support - particularly of the families affected by meningitis, Royal Colleges, the NHS and Public Health England - remains critical in ensuring that this vital work to gets completed”.
