Current opportunities

Safety and Wellbeing Fairs

We need volunteers for stands at Safety and Wellbeing fairs, on any of the following dates, at Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University:

  • Monday 24 October - City campus
  • Tuesday 25 October - Clifton campus
  • Wednesday 26 October - Brackenhurst campus
All events will run from 10am-2pm.

Freshers Fairs

We really need your help in September, running awareness stands at student Freshers Fairs.

This is a vital time to raise student awareness about the signs and symptoms of meningitis. Cases of bacterial meningitis, caused by MenB (meningococcal group B), are on the rise and students often don't realise they're not protected against this strain.

Students have a higher risk of contracting meningitis as they are mixing with lots of new people and often live in cramped student accommodation. Early symptoms may be mistaken for a tummy bug, flu, or a hangover. However, someone with bacterial meningitis will quickly become seriously ill and urgent medical treatment can be lifesaving.

It’s important for students to be aware of the signs and symptoms of meningitis and to seek urgent medical advice if they are concerned about themselves or the health of their mates.

It would be a huge help if you could attend any of the following:

UCL, University College London - Tuesday 20 September - Sunday 2 October. You can come for as many days as you like and the days are also split into morning (10am-1pm) and afternoon sessions (1pm-4pm) if this is easier

University of Plymouth - Tuesday 20 September

Bournemouth University - Saturday 24 September

Plymouth Marjon University - Friday 23 September

University of Plymouth - Tuesday 20 September

West London College (each event will be running from 11am - 2pm):

  • Park Royal campus - Monday 12 September
  • Ealing campus - Tuesday 13 September
  • Southall campus - Wednesday 14 September
  • Hammersmith campus - Thursday 15 September
If you would like to volunteer at any of these events, or would like more information, please email our Volunteering team.

Event support

London Marathon

When: Sunday 2 October 2022
Where: Various locations in Central London

Can you help us support our runners?

We are looking for volunteers for the London Marathon to ensure our runners receive the support and care that they deserve during and after running the incredible 26.2 mile course!

Those of you who have volunteered previously at the London Marathon will know it is a really fun day filled with so much excitement! This is also a fantastic opportunity to meet fellow volunteers and staff.

We are looking for volunteers to help at:

  • Our cheering point - the Walrus and Carpenter Pub at mile 23
  • The Post-Race Reception at the Royal Overseas League
  • At the end of the race to collect our runners

Transport is also provided from Stroud on the Sunday in the form of a coach, departing from our Head Office in Stroud for London at 7:00am and departing London for Stroud between 5:30-6pm.

If you are free on this date and would like to volunteer, or if you want to find out more, please email our Volunteering team

Five Valleys Walk

When: Sunday 25 September 2022
Where: Stroud and the surrounding valleys

Our iconic 21-mile Five Valleys Walk takes place on Sunday 25 September in Gloucestershire. This flagship annual event has been running for over 30 years, and is organised and run entirely by Meningitis Now.

We need lots of volunteers to help make it a fantastic success! In the past our volunteers have come from far and wide to join us for this iconic walk. Can you help us set up, run a checkpoint, help pre-registered walkers or register walkers on the day?

We need volunteers to do either a morning shift, an afternoon shift or the full day. This walk takes place in stunning scenery, and you'll be joining a warm and friendly team for a really great day out!

There are three shifts available:

  • Morning shift – 07:15-12:45
  • Afternoon shift – 12:30-18:00
  • All-day shift – 07:15-18:00

If you are available to help on the day or would like more information about the event, please email our Volunteering team.

Will you host a collection tin?

We recently picked up a collection tin from a local builder's merchant which had £90 in. These collection tins all add up and are the easiest way to fundraise. Please will you order two collection tins to put in local businesses? It is a huge help to us - bringing in extra money to help fund our support and research.

Please email our Volunteering team to place your order.

Become a Community Volunteer

“I am a passionate believer in what Meningitis Now is doing and about helping to spread awareness of this disease. Sometimes it can be very difficult and very emotional too, but it’s worth it. The respect that goes with volunteering helps make life feel positive.”  Damion - Community Volunteer

“I volunteer in many ways; distributing literature, attending awareness fairs, promoting and assisting with Toddle Waddle events, London Marathon and more. Volunteering is my therapy. I gain so much from it and I always try to be there when I am needed.”  Mary - Community Ambassador
