Current opportunities

Charity of the Year

  • Around this time of year, schools and workplaces might be thinking about inviting nominations for a Charity of the Year to support. If this opportunity comes up, we would love you to nominate us! If you can think of a school or organisation that has a Charity of the Year programme, we can provide you with videos and any information you need for your presentation to show why Meningitis Now is such a great charity to support; please contact us for more information.

Help make our students meningitis aware

  • Prior Park College in Bath are looking for someone to deliver a face-to-face or online talk for their 6th Form General Studies students, providing information and awareness about meningitis, on 12 or 26 May from 11:20am-12:15pm. If you'd be interested please email us.

Thousands of students are enrolled in universities across the UK and many of them do not know the signs and symptoms of meningitis. Our awareness campaign - 'Don't Assume It's Covid' - is more vital than ever. Will you contact your local university and ask them if we can provide awareness materials for them to use? If you want to talk to me about how to do this, just email us and we'd love to let you know more.

One of our wonderful supporters has funded thousands of signs and symptoms fridge magnets and their postage costs. We want to have a fridge magnet in every university block we can reach. Please use your university contacts to help us get these vital awareness-raising materials out there. If you have access to someone in a university who can help distribute them, please let us know and we will send them out.

Presentations to schools, colleges and local community groups
We have a new official, virtual meningitis awareness presentation for our volunteers to give to schools, colleges and local community groups. We can give you technical help for your presentation over Zoom or Teams, and are happy to join you on your presentation to offer you extra support and help with any questions. Please contact us if you would like to find out more about giving virtual awareness-raising talks.

Awareness-raising through social media
At this time of year it is vital that people don't mistake their meningitis symptoms for Covid-19 and self-isolate. We have a range of digital awareness-raising messages we can send you to share on Instagram, Twitter and your own Facebook page. We also have a powerful, five minute movie that you can show before virtual events.

Email us at volunteering@meningitisnow.org or give us a call on 01453 769 033 if you would like any more information, or if you can help. We would love to hear from you and send you materials to use.

Become a Community Volunteer

“I am a passionate believer in what Meningitis Now is doing and about helping to spread awareness of this disease. Sometimes it can be very difficult and very emotional too, but it’s worth it. The respect that goes with volunteering helps make life feel positive.”  Damion - Community Volunteer

“I volunteer in many ways; distributing literature, attending awareness fairs, promoting and assisting with Toddle Waddle events, London Marathon and more. Volunteering is my therapy. I gain so much from it and I always try to be there when I am needed.”  Mary - Community Ambassador
