Christine Hughes

No matter when or what your experience of meningitis is, I'm here to help

Chris Hughes

Community Support Officer

Chris is one of our Community Support Officers, covering the North of England.

The year you joined the charity

2001 - 17 years ago.

A brief overview of your role – what are you responsible for?

Supporting families and individuals who have had an experience of meningitis, whether that be by home visit, telephone, email, social media or organising support events from Family Days to Forever Days in the North.

I work with partner organisations to make sure our supporters are given the best possible advice, guidance and support that suits their needs. I also make referrals to our support services such as counselling, complimentary therapies where appropriate, and look after our Bereavement Facebook page.

Your favourite part of your role

My real favourite is home visits, followed by support events and admin on our Bereavement Facebook page

Your biggest achievements

The birth of my beautiful daughter Ellie, who is now 22, and seeing all the families and individuals who I have supported over the last 17 years recover and re-build their lives after this devastating disease has affected themselves or their loved ones.

A fun fact about yourself

I love a few G&Ts of a Friday night after a hard and emotional but rewarding week at work.
