Scarlett Mills

Communications and Press Officer

Hi, I'm Scarlett, one of the Communications and Press Officers at Meningitis Now

The year you joined the charity

February 2017.

A brief overview of your role – what are you responsible for?

I am responsible for raising awareness of meningitis and the work of charity. I do this by writing blogs about fundraising events and activities, and writing press releases for local and national media outlets.

I help to co-ordinate media interviews, liaising with staff and supporters to provide a spokesperson for TV or radio when required.

I also proofread and edit case studies written by people who have been affected by meningitis.

Your favourite part of your role

I really enjoy seeing a press release I have written published on websites and in print. My current record for overnight coverage from one press release is 310, and I’m always looking for stories that have the potential to beat that!

I also enjoy the fast-paced challenge of co-ordinating media opportunities that arise last minute. I enjoy sorting out the details and arrangements, and especially like seeing the results of my work when interviews, which I have organised, are broadcast.

Your biggest achievements

My biggest achievement is completing my Forensic Science degree.

A fun fact about yourself

I like to keep active and cycle at least three times a week, and I’m also learning to play golf. Oh, and I like badgers!
