Believers & Achievers' weekend in the Forest
Last weekend 11 young adults aged between 18 and 25 disappeared into a forest with our Meningitis Now Believe & Achieve crew for two days of team-building, support and personal development
One of the participants, Rebecca, tells us about her experience in the Forest.
“I attended the Believe & Achieve residential weekend with my sister as we felt like that would give us an opportunity to spend some quality time with each other. I also wanted to meet others that had different experiences with meningitis."
“I was so excited to meet everyone, but nervous at the same time in case I didn’t fit in and in case I felt judged that I wasn't affected by meningitis as much as others were. On arrival though it soon became clear that everyone was so different but we all had this connection which made us bond very well - everyone made me feel so welcome!"
Made a new family
“Everyone was so kind and understanding. My favourite activities were the aqua park as I love being adventurous, and the selfie challenge as it created a better bond between the group and we had a great laugh. The leaders were fantastic - they thought of every little detail which helped me view myself in a positive way. I felt so sad when it was time to leave as it felt like I had made a new family. We have even made a group chat so we can all keep in touch."
“If anyone is thinking of coming along to the events or residentials it is definitely worth it, it’s such an experience that I will never forget. I came home feeling like a different person, so relaxed and more motivated to get on with day to day life. If I could do it all over again I would and I can't wait for the next one!”
