Hitting the high ropes

So this weekend our Believe and Achieve Programme Coordinator Becky is heading off on her adventures. . .

Believe and achieve FFN

"I’m going to my first PGL activity day this weekend. For those that don’t know there are two PGL Believe & Achieve activity weekends for 11-17 year olds a year and one different sort of weekend for those aged 18-25."

"This is the PGL one and I’m terrified!"

"The last time I did something like this was a low ropes course when I worked for BMW. It was me – all 4 foot 6 of me – and 10 burly men. The aim was to get everyone around this square low tightrope course using trees, ropes hanging down and most importantly each other."

"But the biggest issue became obvious as soon as I walked up to the first rope. Due to my inexplicable fears I couldn’t stop shaking. This wasn’t a slight tremble, I was shaking so violently that 10 gruff men stopped what they were doing and the aim of our morning became ‘get Becky around the course safely’. No one made fun of me or huffed about how complicated I’d made it."

"Ultimately it was probably one of the best team building exercises we could have taken part in – we were a strong team by the end of it."

"But now you can see why I’m nervous about visiting the PGL weekend. Does anyone have any tips for what they do when they’re nervous? Has anyone been on a PGL weekend before?"
