Meningitis awareness for childcare providers
Please note, due to the current pandemic we are unable to process MARM applications until further notice. However, you can access all of our MARM resources by registering your details below.
Although meningitis can affect anyone of any age, babies and young children are most at risk. Despite vaccines being available to protect against some types, there are still thousands of cases each year in the UK
It is vital that everyone knows the signs and symptoms to look out for, and the action to take if someone is suspected to have meningitis.
The Meningitis Aware Recognition Mark (MARM) toolkit has been developed to help those providing childcare to the under-5s ensure that staff, parents and carers know about meningitis.
On completion of the checklist, each provider will be awarded the MARM which demonstrates that they are:
- Providing information and training to staff about the signs and symptoms of meningitis and the action to take if a child is ill
- Aware of the importance of vaccination for the prevention of meningitis
- Planning ahead by having a protocol in place for the action to take if a child is ill
- Planning ahead by having a plan in place to deal with a case or an outbreak of meningitis
