Meningitis Awareness for Universities

In the UK every university could experience at least one case of meningitis or meningococcal disease (meningitis and septicaemia) amongst its students within the first term

Meningitis Now awareness - Students

Universities have an important role to play in the recognition, prevention and management of meningitis - knowing the signs and symptoms and getting immediate medical help will save lives.

To help universities with this task, we have developed a toolkit consisting of a self-assessment checklist, and resources, based on the recommendations set out in Public Health England’s "Guidance on the prevention and management of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia in higher education institutions”.

These guidelines are inclusive for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and cover three main areas:

  • Raising awareness of meningitis amongst students and staff
  • Promoting vaccine uptake
  • Planning ahead – being prepared for a case(s) of meningitis or meningococcal disease on campus

Register below to have full access to our meningitis toolkit and resources for universities.

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email and can access the toolkit from there.
