“Support from Meningitis Now has made my life a lot better and shown me I am not alone.”

Julie’s 2-year-old daughter Aimee had a high temperature, was very tired , floppy and just not with it.

She had contracted bacterial meningitis, which has left her with life-changing after-effects, as Julie, from Baillieston in Glasgow, tells us here:

“Aimee was diagnosed with meningitis on the 1st October 2015 in Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.

“She had been so ill the day before with a high temperature that I contacted my GP. I was told it was a bug and to keep her drinking.

“Then the next day she got a lot worse, so I headed to the hospital. Two doctors on duty told me it was 99.9 percent certain it was meningitis.

Suffered a stroke

“Aimee went into ICU for two days and was then moved to a ward. She took ill again on the Monday and suffered a stroke.

“She has suffered a brain injury and deafness, leading to cochlear implants, and also has epilepsy, autism and special needs.

"Aimee needs all-day support and I am now her full-time carer.”

Julie has received support from Meningitis Now through Home Visits and courses. These, she says, have “Made my life a lot better and shown me I am not alone.”
