Colleagues take on hiking challenge

A team from Coleg Gwent took on the Horseshoe Challenge

Colleagues and friends from Coleg Gwent set their sights on Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).

The team took on the Horseshoe challenge in memory of Megan Draper, who sadly died in October last year.

Katy Cook, a friend and colleague of Helen Draper, Megan’s mum, said:

“In October 2025, we tragically lost our colleague’s beloved 18-year-old daughter, Megan Draper, to MenB.

Since then, we’ve learned how many young people remain unprotected — with anyone born before 2015 not routinely vaccinated against MenB, and students at increased risk, particularly those in shared accommodation.”

Inspired by Meg’s memory, the team stepped out of their comfort zones to take on the demanding mountain challenge to honour her and help raise vital awareness. They also raised an amazing £5,245.

Iconic peaks

The 10-mile, 7-hour adventure saw the team summit the iconic peaks of Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du.

Katy said: “We had the best day ever! Dan and the team from Elite Adventures were amazing. It was very emotional, and worth every single ache and pain."

“We feel incredibly proud to have done this together as Team Coleg Gwent, supporting such an important cause.”
