On 16th September 2025 our support team ran a ‘Keep Connected Online’ for parents, grandparents and carers of children with a suspected acquired brain injury (ABI).
We know from the parents we support that children who have had meningitis can be left with after-effects that are similar to those of an ABI.
The pathway to a diagnosis of an ABI can be a difficult and long process and parents are often unsure how to get support from local services and schools.
Our ‘Keep Connected Online’ events aim to
cover a range of topics that are helpful to people with an experience of meningitis.
ABI session
The ABI session focussed on broadening participant’s understanding of ABI, support them with seeking a diagnosis, and how to support children with an ABI.
We were very fortunate to have Dalia Chowdhury from The Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT) come along and deliver a presentation on acquired brain injury and the support that CBIT can offer.
The presentation covered a range of information, including basic anatomy of the brain, how the brain is affected by an ABI, how an ABI affects adults and children differently and pathways to diagnosis and what support is available.
Wealth of information
Feedback from participants included:
“The Q&A session was brilliant. Dalia answered the questions with a wealth of information. I really found it helpful.”
“Thank you very much, it was well organised and two important charities joining forces is innovative.”
“I have learnt what support is available out there for families with children who have an ABI and how to go about getting a diagnosis.”
