Twenty-four members of staff from Eggar’s School in Alton in Hampshire swapped their classrooms for muddy pits at the weekend as they took on a 7.5K Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for our ongoing work.
The team tackled a demanding obstacle course testing strength, stamina and teamwork, all while supporting two important causes – Naomi House & Jack’s Place and Meningitis Now. From icy water to muddy climbs, the event proved tough but rewarding, with colleagues encouraging one another every step of the way and making a positive difference beyond the school gates.
Their efforts so far have raised a fantastic £1,250 to help fight meningitis in memory of Reuben – a much-loved member of their school community who sadly died from the disease.
Team organiser, Lucy Tomkinson, the school’s Safeguarding Lead, told us: “A huge congratulations to all of our amazing staff and family members who took on the 7.5K Henley Tough Mudder!
Represented us brilliantly
“From muddy obstacles to teamwork and determination, you all showed incredible spirit and resilience throughout the challenge. We’re so proud of everyone who participated and represented us so brilliantly.
“Choosing to raise money for Meningitis Now is something that means a great deal to our whole community. It is not just about fundraising—it is about remembrance, awareness, and making a difference in the future.
“Reuben was a much-loved member of our school. He brought energy, kindness and warmth to those around him, and his presence is deeply missed every day. Losing him to meningitis was devastating, and it has left a lasting impact on students, staff, and everyone who knew him.
Keeping Reuben’s memory alive
“By supporting Meningitis Now, we are keeping Reuben’s memory alive in a meaningful way. The charity works tirelessly to fund research, raise awareness, and support families affected by this illness. Through our efforts, we hope to contribute to a future where fewer families have to experience such loss.
“This cause has brought us together. It has given us a way to turn our grief into something positive—to take action, to educate others, and to honour Reuben’s life. Every event we hold and every pound we raise is a reflection of how much he meant to us.
“We will continue to remember Reuben, not only for the sadness of his passing, but for the joy he brought into our lives. Supporting Meningitis Now is our way of ensuring that his legacy lives on and that, in his name, we can help protect others.”
Leah Morgan, our Fundraising Manager, said: “Thank you so much to Lucy and everyone at Eggar’s School for taking on this challenge in Reuben’s memory – we really appreciate your support. Every muddy obstacle cleared helps us fight back against this devastating disease through supporting those who have been affected by it and enabling us to be here for everyone who needs us. Thank you for all you are doing.”
