Our corporate partners at RBC Brewin Dolphin organised a tennis tournament and netted a fantastic £431 towards our ongoing work fighting meningitis.
The event, organised by Tom Barton, Investment Manager at RBC Brewin Dolphin in Cheltenham, saw 12 pairs from six local firms – BPE, Randall & Payne, Charles Russell Speechleys, Bruton Knowles, Harrison Clark Rickerbys and Michelmores – battling it out for the honour of lifting the coveted trophy.
Heavy rain saw the tournament, staged at East Glos Tennis Club, move from the grass courts to the astro courts, but failed to dampen the enthusiasm of those taking part, who enjoyed a fantastic evening of tennis and good company.
Great spirits and impressive tennis
The tournament started with three groups of four teams. One from each progressed to the semi-finals along with a lucky loser. This saw CRS 1 vs Michelmores in one semi-final and CRS 2 vs Bruton Knowles in the other. Congratulations to the Michelmores team of Charles Frost and Elinor Crosbie-Dawson (see photo) who then beat CRS 2 in the final to become the winners.
Tom told us: “Despite some classic British summer rain, the annual RBC Brewin Dolphin Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament at East Glos Club went ahead in great spirits, and with some impressive tennis on show. We were thrilled to welcome 12 pairs from a variety of firms across the region, all bringing energy, sportsmanship and a healthy dose of competitive edge to the court.
“The final saw Michelmores (Charles Frost and Elinor Crosbie-Dawson), pictured, and CRS (Noah Ofulue and Sophie Durn) go head-to-head in a closely contested match, with Michelmores ultimately taking the win and lifting the trophy. Congratulations to them, and well played to everyone who took part throughout the evening.
Laughs and conversation
“Most importantly, we’re delighted to share that the evening raised £431.52 for Meningitis Now, our charitable partner for the year. Once the matches were wrapped up, everyone enjoyed pizzas and drinks courtside, rounding off the event with plenty of laughs and relaxed conversation.
“A huge thank you to East Glos Club for hosting, and to all of the players who braved the weather to make it such a successful and enjoyable evening. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
Laura Williams, our Senior Corporate Fundraiser, added: “We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Tom, RBC Brewin Dolphin and everyone who took part in the tournament for helping us to raise such valuable awareness of meningitis and funds to fight back against it. This latest contribution brings RBC Brewin Dolphin’s Charity of the Year fundraising to £3,581 and we really appreciate everything they are doing to support our work – thank you.”
