22nd March 2016

Matthew’s son, Charlie, from Great Eccleston in Lancashire became ill in August 2015 with MenB

Charlie R’s story

The prompt care he received helped him make a good recovery. Matthew tells their story here.

"Our baby, Charlie, was ill and we took him to urgent care at Blackpool Hospital. If it wasn't for the nurse who saw him and sent him to the ward he probably would have died, because we figured he only had a cold.

"A week or so in hospital later and he seemed better. Because he was caught so early his rash never got as bad as others I have seen, but he was in pain and needed a lot of medicine. The hospital staff were all superb.

"He suffered swelling of testes as a rare side effect (this is still under assessment as a medical research interest) and had a rash, fever and, swelling of head."
