Eve A's story

5th March 2016

Heartbroken mum, Lora Allonby, of Cumbria, lost her baby daughter to meningococcal group B meningitis and septicaemia when she was just five days old

Eve A's story

Lora will never forget the tragic morning of 2 December 2007 when she woke up to find her daughter was not breathing.

She tells her heart-rending story here.

“Our beautiful daughter Eve was born on 26 November 2007 after a text book labour and birth.

We were both discharged from hospital the following day, where she got to meet her siblings, other family members and friends.

Eve was a content baby - very settled, and feeding well, and at five days old the midwife weighed Eve and gave her a check over. We were told our baby was 'perfect'. Little did we know what was about to happen.

That night I fed Eve, put her to bed and kissed her goodnight. That was the last time I saw her alive.

When I woke up at 3am and leaned over to check on Eve I realised she was not breathing. I gave her CPR while we waited for the paramedics and we were rushed to hospital.

Despite their best efforts, nothing could revive Eve.

At just five days old her life was over before it had barely begun and our hearts shattered into a million pieces, never to be fully put back together, ever again.”
