Isobel Black

Volunteer Manager

Hello, I'm Isobel, Volunteer Manager at Meningitis Now

The year you joined the charity

November 2018.

A brief overview of your role – what are you responsible for?

My role is all to do with recruiting and engaging the amazing volunteers who carry out a huge amount of awareness-raising about meningitis throughout the country.

Your favourite part of your role

My favourite part of my role is the volunteer contact. I love talking to our volunteers to find out what's brought them to Meningitis Now. Harnessing their enthusiasm and working to make their volunteering experience as rewarding as possible is a huge motivator.

Your biggest achievements

My biggest achievement is bringing up three children while moving around the world every few years - and they are still sane!

A fun fact about yourself

I spent over 20 years outside the UK, working as an antiquarian book restorer and a dance teacher in San Francisco; as a computer systems analyst in Swindon, Colorado and New Delhi, and setting up education groups for young children in Ghana and France. Not an average career trajectory but I've loved every job I've had.
