Introducing Meningitis Now Safety Team member Steve Lawes

Day job - Mountain and Expedition Leader - retired police officer

The best part of being a Safety Team member - is seeing the sense of pride and achievement when people complete their challenge, many having been touched by meningitis, and therefore having very personal reasons for attempting the challenge. It really is very humbling and an honour to be able to help and support them.

Dislikes it when - someone tells me "I can't do it" when they haven't even tried.

Likes it when - people will go out of their comfort zone to try something new.

Best piece of advice to someone starting their training - is to remember why you're doing it, be open-minded and above all have fun. It's more about mental determination than physical fitness!

If you have any questions about the technical aspects of the event or kit required don't hesitate to ask me.

Our UK treks and challenges couldn’t go ahead without our invaluable safety team and qualified mountain leaders. Each and every one of them retain expert knowledge, understanding and a passion for outdoor pursuits and the mountains we climb. They are on hand to ensure the wellbeing of our participants, navigating them through each trek safely and providing words of encouragement to help everyone complete their challenge.
