Dr Okike
Dr Okike is a Consultant Paediatrician with interest in Paediatric infectious diseases, Honorary Professor, University of Nottingham School of Medicine and Honorary Consultant at the UKHSA, Immunisation Division. He is a Fellow of the RCPCH and the Advance HE. He is the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust (UHDB), Academic Clinical Sub-Dean for University of Nottingham students at UHDB and the deputy chair of the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) Scientific Committee.
He completed his Paediatric specialist training in London and obtained his PhD from St George’s, University of London. His thesis was on the epidemiology and management of bacterial meningitis in infants less than three months. This work led to better understanding of the presentation, challenges in management and risk factors for poor outcome. Working with meningitis charities he produced materials to support parents and professionals treating infants with bacterial meningitis.
He is the UK lead and co-investigator for BOBBI; clinical trial of Dexamethasone in young infants treated for bacterial meningitis (www.npeu.ox.ac.uk/bobbi).
