Dr Stephen Clark
Dr Stephen Clark is a Senior Scientist at the UK Health Security Agency’s Meningococcal Reference Unit (MRU) in Manchester. He has extensive experience in meningococcal epidemiology, diagnostics and vaccine research.
Within the MRU, his role includes overseeing meningococcal typing directly from clinical specimens, supporting national meningococcal disease surveillance and providing important microbiological information during outbreaks. He is also involved in projects using the Meningococcal Antigen Surface Antibody (MEASURE) assay to predict strain coverage of the Trumenba MenB vaccine.
His wider research activities include several meningococcal carriage studies and the BloTIMA project, which is investigating and validating the use of dried blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spots for the diagnosis of meningococcal disease.
