Mia C's story

5th March 2020

Kirsty’s great niece Mia had a difficult start in life when, shortly after birth, she was diagnosed with meningitis

Mia C’s story

Thankfully she pulled through, and Kirsty, from Long Eaton in Nottingham, is now keen to share her experience to help raise awareness.

“I would like to tell the story about my great niece Mia.

“Mia was born on 22 February 2018 and, with everything being well, mum and baby left hospital.

“A day later Mia started twitching. Mum called 111 to ask what might be wrong and they replied that all new babies twitch. They said if she is still doing it in 24 hours make a doctor’s appointment.

“Her mum decided that she would go to A&E just to be on the safe side. That’s where the nurses confirmed it was bacterial meningitis and Mia spent the next month in hospital.

“They said that if she had waited 24 hours she wouldn’t be here.

“Mia’s illness has changed all of our lives. The thought of Mia not being here is heart-breaking and it would be nice to help others who might not realise what the signs are and what could happen.”
