James Gilling

Fundraising Assistant

Hello! I'm James and I'm a Fundraising Assistant at Meningitis Now

The year you joined the charity

January 2022.

A brief overview of your role - what are you responsible for?

Sharing my role with my colleague Kyra, I help to manage our Fundraising inbox: responding to a range of fundraising enquiries and cataloguing information for new supporters in our Salesforce database. I am also involved with the planning and delivery of Meningitis Now’s fundraising events, and support the administration of our Forever Funds.

Your favourite part of your role

I get a great deal of fulfilment from helping to achieve real, positive change for those in need and from being able to give back to my community. My favourite part of my role is therefore having the opportunity to do just this: Meningitis Now has an excellent 30 year track record in changing for the better the lives of those who have been impacted by meningitis - serving the Gloucestershire community and beyond! I’m delighted to be able to play my part.

Your biggest achievements

Achieving my Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and International Relations.

A fun fact about yourself

As my childhood home was a barn conversion out in the countryside, I was, in fact, ‘raised in a barn’ and can therefore answer the commonly-used idiom in the following way: “Why have you left the door wide open?! Were you raised in a barn?!” “Why yes. As my childhood home was a barn conversion out in the countryside, I was, in fact, ‘raised in a barn’”.
